Actuarial Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis
Join Bowtie as FP&A Actuarial Manager in HK to lead strategic finance, mentor a growing team, and partner with leadership to shape the future of insurance.
Role Summary
At Bowtie, we aren't just selling insurance; we're rebuilding it from the ground up. As Hong Kong's first virtual insurer, we thrive on transparency, efficiency, and data-driven decisions.
We are looking for a high-caliber Manager to join our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team. This isn't a role for "bean counters." We need a strategic leader and storyteller who can sit at the intersection of Actuarial Science and Corporate Finance — and bring a team along with them — as we navigate our next phase of hyper-growth.
About the Role
You will lead FP&A initiatives in a fast-paced organisation that promotes cross-functional collaboration. As a Manager, you will not only own deliverables but also shape the FP&A function itself — building frameworks, mentoring junior team members, and acting as a trusted finance partner to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performance Measurement & Reporting
Own and elevate the monthly business review process, translating complex data into compelling narratives that explain "the why" behind Actuals vs. Plan — and present findings directly to leadership.
Drive granular Line of Business (LOB) reporting, ensuring leadership has clear visibility into margin contributions across all business segments.
Lead the partnership with Data Engineering teams to ensure financial data is "AI-ready," spearheading the transition toward automated variance reporting and predictive analytics.
2. Financial Management & Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting cycle, working cross-functionally with department heads and the CFO/Finance leadership to align resources with company strategy.
Develop and maintain rolling forecast frameworks agile enough to reflect rapid business mix shifts and new product launches.
Oversee Cash Conversion Cycle monitoring, identifying and executing strategic levers to optimise liquidity while supporting aggressive growth targets.
3. Business Optimisation & Decision Support
Act as a strategic finance partner to Marketing, Growth, and Product teams — delivering Value vs. Cost analyses that drive actionable commercial decisions.
Lead rigorous scenario modelling and "What-If" stress testing (e.g., sales volatility, regulatory changes) to proactively manage stakeholder expectations and future-proof strategy.
Identify opportunities to improve FP&A processes, tools, and reporting infrastructure to scale with the business.
4. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Operations, and the Co-Founders.
Represent the FP&A function in cross-functional forums and executive reviews.
About You
We are looking for a proven finance leader with a unique blend of technical mastery and commercial curiosity. Whether you come from a traditional finance background or an actuarial path, you must be a builder and people-leader at heart. Insurance background is a must.
The Actuarial Path:
6–9 years of experience in Actuarial Valuations or FP&A, with demonstrated appetite for a commercial "business-side" role.
Strong ability to translate HKRBC or IFRS 17 knowledge into ROI-driven business decisions.
Expert-level command of P&L structures, cash flow management, and capital allocation.
The Common Denominator:
The Strategic Communicator: You don't just report what happened — you explain why, what it means, and what we should do next. You're comfortable presenting to the C-suite.
People Leader: You invest in your team, create clarity from ambiguity, and know when to roll up your sleeves alongside your direct reports.
Tech-Fluent: Comfortable with modern data stacks; eager to use technology to automate the mundane and unlock sharper insight.
Agile Mindset: You thrive in an environment where the "right answer" evolves alongside the market.
