Manager, Regulatory Compliance
Drive Bowtie’s regulatory relationships, turn change into action, and help shape bold growth initiatives as a trusted compliance partner at Hong Kong’s virtual insurer.
Role Summary
At Bowtie, we aren't just selling insurance; we're rebuilding it from the ground up — as Hong Kong's first virtual insurer, regulated by the HKIA. That regulatory relationship isn't a back-office function for us; it's core to how fast and how well we can grow.
This role sits at the centre of that relationship. You'll be the day-to-day face of Bowtie with the HKIA, HKFI, and the VHIS Office, and the person who translates every new circular, guideline, and regulatory shift into something the business can actually act on — before it becomes a problem.
If you've done compliance in a traditional insurer and want to see what it looks like when compliance sits inside the room where growth decisions get made, not outside it, this is built for you.
About the Role
Together with our Senior Compliance Manager, you'll own Bowtie's regulatory engagement end-to-end — enquiries, inspections, filings, and change management — while acting as the compliance partner to teams running our biggest growth bets, from new licence classes to market expansion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Liaison & Reporting
Own Bowtie's day-to-day relationship with the HKIA, HKFI, and VHIS Office, acting as the single point of contact for regulatory enquiries, core projects, and inspections.
Coordinate and drive the submission of every regulatory return and filing across actuarial, finance, and IT, keeping them accurate and on time.
2. Growth Initiatives Support
Partner directly with the teams and business owners running Bowtie's growth initiatives — new class authorisation, M&A, overseas market expansion — building compliance into how they get executed, not bolting it on after.
3. Regulatory Change Monitoring & Implementation
Track HKIA and VHIS Office updates and HKFI circulars, plus relevant initiatives from across our group, and turn them into a clear read on what changes for Bowtie.
Lead impact assessments and drive implementation of regulatory change across the business within the deadline.
Consolidate Bowtie's position on proposed regulatory changes and act as the ongoing contact point with regulators and industry bodies on follow-up.
4. Licensing & CPD Administration
Own licence registrations and renewals and CPD tracking for licensed staff, and support Talent Acquisition on regulatory reference checks.
5. Compliance Enhancements & Digital Support
Build compliance into Bowtie's digital initiatives — AI-driven automation, AML/KYC workflows, marketing and branding reviews — and lead ad-hoc processes like incident management and complaint reviews.
About You
Experience & Skills
5–8 years in compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related risk function within Hong Kong's insurance industry.
Direct experience engaging with the HKIA, HKFI, or the VHIS Office is a must — you know how these bodies actually work, not just what they require on paper.
Comfortable coordinating regulatory returns and filings that span actuarial, finance, and IT.
A strong plus: exposure to new licence class applications, M&A, or market expansion projects.
A strong plus: experience embedding compliance into digital or automated workflows, such as AI tooling or AML/KYC systems.
The Person
You're the person a regulator can call and trust to give a straight, accurate answer.
You read a circular and instinctively ask "what does this actually mean for us," not just "did we log it."
You're energised by ambiguity — when there's no SOP, you write one instead of waiting for someone else to.
You move at the pace the business needs, and know how to flag real risk without becoming the reason a launch slips a quarter.
You'd rather sit inside a product or growth conversation than review it after the fact.
You're comfortable being the only compliance voice in the room, and just as comfortable pulling in the right people when you're not.
Language
English and Cantonese required — most day-to-day regulator engagement happens in both.
Mandarin is a plus.
